26 AprA very special thank you…
There are so many special people who make Butterfly Children’s Hospices work. Ayis and nurses who love and care directly for the children day in and day out. Administrative and office staff who keep things running smoothly and care deeply for the Butterflies as well. There are loads and loads of dedicated volunteers in China and around the world who visit, raise funds, send supplies, and offer their talents. Donors too! We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without you!
We want to take a moment to honour a special couple who have devoted themselves to Butterfly for a very long time. Over 10 years ago, Jamie and Fiona McNeil tracked down a volunteer nurse who had cared for their daughter in her orphanage in China before they adopted her. That nurse was BCH founder Lyn Gould. Their instant connection and shared passion for China’s most vulnerable children launched what has become a long and valued relationship.
In addition to Jamie serving tirelessly for 9 years as a Trustee on the International Board of Butterfly Children’s Hospices, he and Fiona set up and run the Australian charity known as Chinakidz (the former name of BCH) to fundraise and publicise the work there. Jamie’s wise advice and keen sense of humour have seen us through the ups and downs of a young and growing organisation. He has represented the Board on many occasions, traveling to China for meetings with orphanage and government officials, often with the whole family. He’s never turned down an opportunity to toast our Chinese hosts and enjoy a delicious banquet!
You may not realize it, but you’ve known Fiona for years. In addition to her role as a trusted advisor, she is the one who, for many years, has given voice to the children’s stories by writing our blog. Her incredible talent and her passion for communicating the value of each little life has been your window into the daily happenings at the Butterfly Home.
The McNeils have decided it is time to retire from their work with Butterfly to more fully devote themselves to their professional lives and their busy house full of teenagers.
Jamie and Fiona, thank you for your many years of love and commitment to Butterfly Children’s Hospices. We’ll miss you!
