11 AprCelebrating Volunteers
Over the last ten years we have had numerous volunteers give their time and skills to the Butterfly Home. Volunteers, from across the world, play a vital role in our service, and have done since the very beginning.
Here, Michelle shares an insight into her experience as part of a short term team of six amazing volunteers who visited our home. During their visit they supported the team, played with the children and turned their hands to anything that was required (including painting the treatment room!).
“I still think about my time @ the Butterfly home and would love to return one day. I fell in love with the kids and was so impressed with the love and care given to every child by the ayi’s and nurses. It is a happy place, only touched by grief and sadness when a beloved child dies. But the love and care is palpably felt.
I left wishing every child could have access to the medical treatment that would improve the quality of their lives, in particular gastrostomy tubes instead of feeding tubes and ventricular shunts sooner rather than later.
But I was heartened by how hard the team fight for the medical and emotional needs of every child in your care. I was profoundly touched by my experience @ the butterfly home. I only wish there were butterfly homes in every orphanage!”
