28 SepHello Doris & Vivien
We recently introduced our new international volunteers on our blog. If you missed it, you can read about them here.
Today, we want to introduce you to two very special ladies who have joined our Butterfly team in China earlier this year; Doris & Vivien.
“My name is Doris and I live in Changsha, Hunan, where the Butterfly House is located. I have two children, a 6-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl. They are cute most of the time, but sometimes they are a bit naughty! I majored in journalism at university, so I have been working in news media since graduation. While working on the TV station, a colleague made a report about the Butterfly House. From this I learned about Butterfly Children’s Hospices, and was deeply impressed by their work. In 2019, I made a major decision in my career and resigned from 16 years with a TV station to start a new life journey. After taking a break for a while, I had the idea of going to Butterfly House as a volunteer, so I flipped through the WeChat account of Butterfly House and accidentally discovered the recruitment notice of Butterfly House. I joined the team and have been working here for six months. It has been a wonderful journey so far, with the most special part getting to know the children. Although I haven’t seen children for a long time because of the epidemic, and having to work from home, I miss the children and cannot wait to get back. Thanks to the children and the Butterfly House for bringing me everything, and hope that I can do more things for the children.”
“Hi, I’m Vivien. I am mainly responsible for communication and project operation, as well as managing volunteer work. I am very happy to be able to join the Butterfly House and work with a loving and ideal institution to do meaningful things for children. I very much agree with the service philosophy and values of Butterfly House: “Every life deserves to be respected” because I am a social worker, full of enthusiasm and confidence in public welfare. The 4 years of university study not only gave me a certain professional knowledge, but also cultivated the value of helping others solve problems and gain the ability to solve problems. This is also my constant participation in volunteer service and reasons for child-related welfare work. I like to get along with the children very much, and I also get great satisfaction when I see the smiling faces of the children. I have been in the Butterfly Home for 8 months so far. I hope to use my professional skills and do my best to help the children and families who are suffering.”
Welcome Doris & Vivien! We are thankful you made the decision to join our team.
